yes regular ecus are great and they are excellent just to throw in and go and you have sweet increase in power. I think that a standalone in a normally asperated cars will make a much bigger difference than a chipped ecu. each time you need to upgrade a chip it needs to be reburned i have a friend that is currently doing this to honda stuff but he found a link that they are rechipping Z ecus. What ash is doing, stillen, and jwt. i have 3 friends that are running standalone systems. i got one friend is running a haltech on a 1st gen turboed rx-7, then there is another that has a eg civic sohc turboed thats running a hondata, another friend running indivdual throttle bodies on a type-r with a tec 3 system, another friend with a second gen turbo 2 with a 20b (3 rotor) which was running a hatech e6k that is going to run a microtech LT12( top of the line model). since i am around quite a bit of people here that are running these standalones the programming is amazing. I have another friend that lives down the street that used to be a apg dyno tuner, that has tuned some very sweet cars with standalone systems that made gobbs of power from using a standalone. i just like them because you can tune them to your exact specifications. i think standalones really help out when your running things like bigger turbos, cams, adjustable cams sprockets, bigger injectors, nitrous. especially when you can make the biggest gains from a standalone over a chipped ecu. i think people are just afraid of them just like engine swaps, and big mods. but if you got a hook up a dyno a good engine tuner, and a wideband 02. And your set. i do agree that it really sucks since you always have to tune to varying conditions like weather. So i guess is where i stand i just think they are sweet especially sweet when you are buying a fully programable for a range of $700-3000. Shawn
